Camps Bay Retreat is in a private nature reserve far, but not too far, from the hustle and bustle of Cape Town city and its spectacular Atlantic seaboard beaches. Now, all we need is a bell to ring for a butler. Ok, so we might not be able to organise a bell, but all the other whistles are there. That's a given.
Welcome to Camps Bay Retreat, this is an exclusive hotel slash private club complete with members only access. To get in we apply on your behalf and voila: exclusive access to private gardens, tennis courts, the nature reserve, spa and a mountain pool. If that doesn't sound inviting, we don't know what does.

Here you can't really describe a general room, but let's try. Your luxury suites are vintage Victorian with big wooden bed frames, painting and Persian carpets. The superior rooms look like something out of a tropical paradise without the pineapples and coconuts (but with a bathtub in the middle of the room looking out at the view). Finally the premier rooms are like a sleek studio apartment with a balcony overlooking the pool, understated and luxurious. There are a few more options but you get the overall idea. All rooms come with an en-suite, study area, great views and often wine. Oh and did we mention uncapped WiFi?
Even though it is a member’s club, it is family-friendly and there is lots to keep everyone busy. Besides the excellent spa, restaurant and pool, you are near Camps Bay Beach - one of the most popular beaches in Cape Town. And if you are feeling active, Table Mountain and Lions Head behind you are criss-crossed with walking trails.
The local markets are also on your radar (it's where the restaurant gets all of its fresh ingredients) and the bars make for a good change of scenery if you have had enough of the tranquil silence and you want to experience the city vibe. There is always an event taking place in the city, so just keep an ear out or ask Google what's happening, you might end up going to an experimental food tasting or a gallery opening.
Staying at Camps Bay Retreat will mean you have access to all the fast-paced hustle, social environment and a never-ending list of nearby events, but it will also mean you can enjoy the silence and tranquillity then add a massage. It's the best of both worlds and you can bring your dog along to share in the splendour.
