Murchison Falls National Park lies in Masindi district in north western Uganda. It is named for the Murchison Falls waterfall where the waters of the majestic Nile River squeeze through a narrow gorge, only 7 metres wide, before plunging 43 metres below. The park is about 300 kilometres by road from Kampala, Uganda's capital city. Animals like Buffalos, elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, kobs, Impalas, crocodiles, Hippos, water bucks and many others are found in this park. About 425 bird species including hornbills, bee-eaters, kingfishers and storks, Egyptian plover, Chestnut crowned sparrow weaver, Rock pranticole, Red winged grey warbler, Pulvus illadopsis among others.
