Located within the Masai Mara Game Reserve, you’ll have front row seats to witness the ‘Great Migration’, where around two million animals pass through the Masai Mara/Serengeti ecosystem in Kenya and Tanzania.
Set in what is considered Kenya’s prime wildlife area, Mara Leisure Camp is located along the Talek River, at the confluence of the Masai Mara’s four wildlife viewing areas, on the northern boundary of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
Mara Leisure Camp is located within one of the most spectacular locations in the entire Masai Mara Game Reserve. One of the most exciting spectacles in the world is that of the ‘Great Migration’, where two million wildebeest, zebras and other herbivores pass through the Masai Mara/Serengeti ecosystem in Kenya and Tanzania. This is a perilous migration for the animals, where they encounter many river crossings, and have to run the gauntlet of crocodiles in waiting.
Set in one hundred and fifty acres of grassland studded with Acacia bushes and trees, the resort is not only home to our resident giraffe, waterbuck and both Vervet and Colobus monkeys, but it is also a night stop for the hippos when they leave the lake every night to come and trim the grass on our expansive lawns.
With Sopa’s traditional and conscientious care for the environment, we carefully positioned all the buildings on our property so we did not have to fell any of the many trees there. As a result of this, we had to come up with a radically innovative and artistic design for the main public area building which now snakes its way between the trees with long and graceful curves.
It is also why you might well ask just why our two swimming pools with a children’s section and a pool complex with its bar, snack kitchen, pizzeria and health spa; our tennis court; our two conference halls with their four differently sized meeting areas, and our stables are so widely set apart.
Set in 200 acres of private land and with a rustic charm all of its own, the lodge nestles in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjarowhich, at almost six thousand metres, is Africa’s highest and most famous snowcapped mountain.
Spacious cottages are interspersed throughout this large property, so your guest room may be a bit of a distance from the restaurant and other common areas.
Major Attractions are
Mt. Kilimanjaro
Large herds of Elephants
The Big Five
Observation Hill which allows an overall view of the whole park, especially that of the swamps and elephants,
The swamp below Observation Hill hosts many elephants, buffaloes, hippos and a variety of water birds like pelicans and Egyptian geese.
