The main house and focus of life in Hog Hollow features a cave-like dining hall with high thatch and dark floors setting a medieval scene while the view from the wrap-around elevated balcony is of steep forest-covered Tstitsikamma Mountains.

The pool and a variety sun decks and loungers branch off the main house and hover above the ground with cosy nooks and distant views through the trees across the valley. The 16 rooms are cosy cottages tucked into the forest and reached by a network of stone of pathways. An additional three-bedroom palatial private villa sits a few hundred off from the main house and enjoys the same views, setting and service of the lodge.

With effortless comfort, bright locally made artworks and earthy dÃ©cor, the suites at Hog Hollow come complete with king size bed, fireplace, music system (strange music pre-loaded or play your own) and a mini bar. The turn down is something of a surprise as is the dining event - a high table set menu with a medieval theme. While you won't exactly throw leftovers over your shoulder, the mood, led by your charismatic host and a random king, tends towards the garrulous.

The staff at Hog Hollow are all from the surrounding community. Trained by Andy - the local-is-lekker ambassador at Hog Hollow - their enthusiasm and genuine hospitality rivals only the magnificent views, tranquil setting and comfortable accommodation.

An 18km gravel road brings you through communal villages to the nature reserve of Hog Hollow. Enjoy nature trails, birdwatching, sauna, swimming pool and general laziness at the hotel. Then you must venture out to Plettenberg Bay with its wonderful beaches, forest nature reserves, trails, adventure activities, restaurants- a beach holiday's worth of healthy fun and beautiful scenery.
